Look for this year's legislative session to try to bring back the Voter ID bill. This bill would require picture ID's for all voters. This practice has already been declared illegal in several states and is currently in court in others. It would cost the DMV big bucks because they could't charge to make them ( This when their budget has already been slashed to the bone.) Also it would be very inconvenient for shut-ins, nursing home residents, and the elderly. In addition, there are no known instances of anyone trying to vote using another's identity in South Carolina. The professional organization for voter registrars opposes this bill. With the 2010 election coming up we need to strongly oppose it also.
