Letters to the Editor - from the Post and Courier - November 6, 2008
A new course
On Tuesday, Americans spoke in a decisive, bold and courageous manner. The ultimate choice was for unity, not division; for peace, not war; for justice, not bias; for measured reason, not impulsive reaction.
Concern about the daily lives of most Americans trumped the special interests of a few. What a remarkable election.
Though our future holds many challenges that will require clarity of thought, difficult decisions and individual responsibility, we have finally broken through the fear brought about by 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the Iraq war and the crashing economy.
The nation has chosen a leader who has proven to be intelligent, inspiring, strong, steady and compassionate. He has promised to work in a bipartisan manner for the common good as he seeks advice from experienced leaders and listens to dissenting opinions.
President-elect Barack Obama has set us on a new course of American history and politics, one in which I hope we can all be proud and flourish.
Whatever religious belief you have, may the best of the human spirit be revealed as we enter a transformative period in our country.
Let us stay strong and determined in our efforts to help create a better world for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren.
